Team Challenge:
This initial experience gives each participant
an opportunity to build upon success as they progress through
a series of activities with each new challenge requiring a greater
degree of trust and cooperation. The entire group first
interacts in simple warm-ups and "ice breakers". The group
then divides into smaller teams as they attempt increasingly more
challenging and complex activities which require appropriate risk-taking,
and encourage creativity and planning. The group comes back
together for the final events where communications is critical
for effective problem-solving. The day is highlighted by
completion of the Ropes Course events.
Leadership
Trek:
Participants are asked to complete a "leadership
styles" inventory prior to the trek. The instrument is discussed
and results are reviewed in the opening workshop. The participants
are then grouped into small teams as they journey through an elaborate
course of natural obstacles and props. Team-member roles
and responsibilities rotate as each new challenge is encountered.
Such requirements as time management, problem solving, decision
making, and the necessity of utilizing the resources within the
team emerge as each team member develops their leadership potential.
Individuals learn to call on other members in their group for
support in taking appropriate risks. Communication is enhanced
through awareness of individual leadership orientation, and the
strengths and weakness of the team.
